First bed built!

AND SO IT BEGINS!

The building process has begun at Otey Parish, and we've already constructed one full bed that is pictured below! Now what we'll be working on for the next few weeks is getting the next 2 beds built, then finally setting their posts into the ground.

Bring on the digging and the drilling, and let's hope this beautiful weather holds up.

This next picture can give you a scale of how large these beds will be:

March 5th, 2015

Lots of supplies and tools for building have been donated by "Housing Sewanee, Inc.", a community-based program that helps to build houses for those in need here in the Sewanee community. Because of their help, we're only missing a few more materials which we plan on buying this upcoming Tuesday.
We have also applied for funding from a local fund known as the "Sewanee Project Fund" to aid in project initiation and development.
The Community Action Committee Garden Project is still accepting donations of the following materials until March 12th:

Materials
  • lumber
  • stainless steel/galvanized wood screws
  • landscaping fabric
  • wood stakes
  • PVC pipe
  • string or twine
  • PVC conduit clamps
  • cardboard
  • top soil
  • composted manure
  • wire fencing
  • plastic sheeting

Beginnings

The Community Action Committee in Sewanee, TN is working with Otey Episcopal Parish to create a community garden here in our backyard. Using donations and prior experience with building and gardening, Abbey Moore and Louie Messina are excited to begin the project. Right now we are in the process of waiting for funding and donations from our local community and we hope to begin the building process by March 24th, 2015.
